Welcome to Aikido Takemusu Kai - Bristol, discover the art of Aikido with us at our Cato Street dojo just a few minutes away from Stapleton Road station.
Aikido meaning (Ai - harmony, Ki - spirit, energy) is a traditional Japanese martial art that offers no conflict with the attacking force, instead skillfully blends with it using circular movements and techniques of throwing & immobilisations.
Regular training at the Takemusu Kai - Bristol dojo will improve your coordination, suppleness, fitness, health, natural strength, confidence, self-defense all dependent on your effort.

We have been in the current Mivart studio dojo since 1996 our mission is to pass on Takemusu aiki to all those that want to learn, our dojo has been dedicated to providing high-quality instruction in a supportive and inclusive environment.
The first head of Aikido Takemusu kai was Toshinobu Suzuki who was a direct student of the founder of Aikido Morihei Ueshiba.
Richard J Simms sensei 8th.dan has continued his leadership with the current Japanese Takemusu kai headquarter Suzuki shigeyuki.
Simms sensei has been training in aikido from a young age in the mid 70s, and has many decades of teaching experience, he is patient & passionate about sharing the principles of Takemusu Aikido with students of all levels.
Instructor Paul Lamdin 4th.Dan started training in Shiatsu 1995 and Aikido with Takemusu kai in 1996.
Instructor Peter Thompson 3rd. Dan has had a long career in the tech sector, from which he is now mostly retired. He took up Aikido (and Zen) in 1981, while studying at Oxford. He moved to Bristol in 1985 and continued his training under several teachers, joining Takemusu kai in 2008.
The dojo is situated within the Mivart Building a building for artists, Aikido Takemusu Kai has a dedicated dojo space fitted with Japanese style tatami style mats, the dojo has a friendly and relaxed atmosphere conducive for Aikido training.
